I went to them for the first time, and they were all so professional and pleasant. Dr. Mancuso and her staff were great. I was terrified to go there, and they made the entire process painless. I would recommend them highly.

  • What about dental emergencies?

We are here for you! If you are experiencing a dental emergency, call our office right away. We will get you into our schedule as soon as possible.

Meantime, here are some practical tips on what you can do for some common dental emergencies while you are waiting to see our Woburn emergency dentists:

Painful tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water. Use an anti-inflammatory medication to control pain since this will help to reduce any swelling. Hold a cold pack against the outside of the affected area to reduce any swelling and pain.

Knocked-out tooth: Call us right away! It is sometimes possible to save the tooth. Rinse it carefully using milk and try to place it back in the socket. If that is not possible, place it between the gum and cheek or in a glass of milk (do not let it dry out!) Hold the tooth by the crown so you do not damage any roots.

Crown falls off: Clean the crown with a toothbrush. Using toothpaste or denture cream, gently bite down to bond the crown back into place temporarily. Depending on the situation, we will either try to place the old dental crown again or create a new one.

Chipped or broken tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water and try not to bite down on the broken tooth to minimize any further damage. Control any pain with over-the-counter medication and any swelling with an ice pack.

  • Will my children inherit my bad teeth?

There can indeed be a genetic predisposition for certain diseases, like heart disease within families. But does that predisposition include dental diseases?

When it comes to cavities and gum disease, studies have shown that the most significant factor affecting our oral health is still our oral hygiene habits. Regularly brushing and flossing are the only ways to keep dental bacteria in check. So it’s often more a case of learned patterns within a family than genetics that determines how healthy your teeth and gums will be.

However, there is some evidence that shows misaligned teeth and oral cancer can be somewhat hereditary. Learn more about how these factors can affect your children.

  • Should my child have their wisdom teeth removed?

The only way to answer that is for your child to be examined by our Woburn restorative dentists, so they can determine what would be best in his or her individual case.

Wisdom teeth extraction is not always necessary. The problem that often occurs with wisdom teeth is they don’t have enough room to erupt properly. This can impact the health of surrounding teeth and cause pain. When that is the case, it is usually best to remove them, whether you are a child or an adult.

Does it matter when you have your wisdom teeth removed? Actually, it does! Read more about the optimum time for wisdom tooth extraction.
